The natural surroundings were beautiful. Loved the outdoor shower, walkways. Nice breakfast, the entire BNB. The actual hotel was 3 star, but great for price.
“Not Much to Brag About”
I upgraded to a poolside room. I had read that they were musty, but I thought that I could air the room. Not so. All the airing in the world would not remove that musty smell. I could hear the pipes from the people upstairs, and the bed was the so soft I was almost hit the floor. The gardens were nice and the food OK, but that's about it.

“An old B&B with character & charm”
Basaga is a great place to stay if one likes rustic and leafy natural surroundings, and an old world vibe, an oasis of calm in our restless world, soft-spoken shy staff that try to accede to one's requests. But old also means floorboards that creak noisily underfoot, the occasional warped bathroom door that cannot be fully closed, dusty corners, uneven paving that are definitely not wheelchair or elderly friendly and passageways leading from some rooms to the restaurant / lobby / carpark that are exposed to the elements. Leafy means the occasional mossie party. That said Basaga has some of the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in and a small but wonderful swimming pool that clearly makes a lot of guests happy. And another plus is a medical clinic just across the road , Dr Yii Medical Clinic, open almost every day of the week that has some superb doctors should one be unfortunate enough to fall ill.
Should add on more breakfast choice
The service crew willing to prepare the breakfast in advance for continuous two days. Great service. Should enlarge the hotel sign board since it is not really obvious from the roadside.
Followed recommendations of other reviewers but was disappointed with the state of our rooms. While the design of the place has an earthy, nature feel to it, our rooms we're tired and had a musty smell. The bathrooms were mouldy and the toilet seats were not cleaned properly. Just lift up the seat and see what's underneath. The only positive aspect of this place was its very close location to my relatives whom I was visiting.
“A missed opportunity”
Basaga has the bones of a great boutique hotel: it's in an interesting building with a beautiful tropical bar and small but charming pool. Sadly it was let down by mouldy-smelling rooms, low hygiene standards and indifferent staff. Breakfast was decent, with hot food options available in addition to toast and cereal. The location is also decent -- it's a short drive to the city centre (around RM4 via Uber) and a convenient distance from Kuching airport (around RM15 via Uber). The hotel is right next to Chong Lin Park where there are a few coffeehouses/restaurants in walking distance if you don't want to venture farther afield for lunch or dinner. The Basaga bar/restaurant is a very pleasant place to hang out. Despite these advantages I wouldn't recommend the hotel as, due to the mustiness and inadequate cleanliness, the room itself was actively unpleasant to be in. It's a pity as it wouldn't take much work to transform this into a really nice hotel.
“Exotic hotel in the city”
Close to all city attractions. Nice hotel and exotic
