“It is a good hotel.”
Last year, when I visited Yokohama, I decided to stay at a different hotel than the one I stayed at before. This time, I chose to stay at the APA Hotel in Kannai, which I had stayed at during a previous trip to the Chugoku region. By the way, right in front of the APA Hotel, across the street, is the Comfort Hotel Yokohama Kannai. Comfort would have been fine too, but since they didn't have a large public bath, I decided on the APA Hotel this time. In terms of location, it's just a few minutes' walk from Kannai Station, and there are convenience stores and My Basket (a supermarket) nearby, making it convenient. The front desk feels somewhat cramped. The APA Hotel actively implements automatic check-in and check-out to reduce person-to-person contact due to COVID-19. However, there are staff available, and I appreciated the kindness shown when I needed assistance. When I was looking around a bit confused, a female staff member approached me and, upon mentioning that I was an APA member, she assisted me with the computer operations. By the way, as an APA member, it seems the checkout time can be extended by an hour. There were no amenities other than a razor and toothbrush in the room, so I chose other necessary items from the amenity bar to take to my room. There were three elevators, and since they were new, I don't think there was a wait. Some hotels require you to wave your room key card for the elevator to work, but that wasn’t the case here. This time I stayed in a single non-smoking room. I had seen the room on YouTube beforehand, but in reality, it felt quite small. It definitely lived up to the saying that there was no place to put your feet. It was a minimally equipped room. However, as the president of APA mentioned somewhere, the TV was large. There was also a bottle of water available, and coffee and tea could be brought from the first floor, so that was not a problem. Additionally, there was a VOD service where movies could be watched for free. Lying on the bed, I could see the TV directly in front of me, making it very comfortable. The desk and other furniture had some scratches. Well, since there was no peeling wallpaper or unpleasant odors, I found no issues with it. The toothbrush in the room had a somewhat thick handle for easy grip, and the tips of the bristles were fine, offering a quality feel rather than a cheap one. The cups were paper cups, which felt hygienic, and there were also proper glass cups available. The large public bath included an indoor bath, an open-air bath, and a sauna. The open-air bath only had an open ceiling, which made me feel a bit uncertain about its quality, but I suppose they did their best with it. The shower had the trendy ultra-fine bubble shower, which was sufficient. Breakfast was served in the first-floor Italian restaurant. The breakfast was not abundant but also not insufficient, providing the necessary minimum. I would have preferred if local cuisine had been included; for example, Yokohama is famous for Chinatown, so it would have been great to have some shumai or dim sum as options. Interestingly, despite being an Italian restaurant, they did not offer any Italian dishes, which was a bit disappointing. However, I was glad to see the famous curry by the APA president, as I had been looking forward to it. As for the taste... it wasn't particularly distinctive. I also topped my meal with chicken nuggets and scrambled eggs from the other dishes, and this significantly enhanced the indulgence and flavor of the breakfast. The ginkgo trees from the restaurant were beautifully visible this season, and I ended up overeating breakfast. After the meal, the staff cleared the dishes for me. Thank you for the meal. Checking out was very smooth, as I only had to insert my card to complete the process. There was a morning newspaper at the entrance, so I took a copy. This was a nice service.
