Sendai Royal Park Hotel
Sendai,Sendai - View on map
"I was traveling from northern Japan to Tokyo and made the stop in Sendai to rest and find a good meal. The Royal Park was FANTASTIC! The value and experience exceeded the very affordable price!! It's a very convenient location and has parking. I am American and do not speak Japanese, but they had staff who spoke English which was very helpful. I had a wonderful night's sleep and had dinner at the hotel resturant; it was a delicious meal and I would go back just to eat at the resturant :-) If you go you must make time to walk around the beautiful grounds. Every aspect of the hotel, resturant and the grounds are exceptional. I can't say enough wonderful things about my stay at the Royal Park - you've got to try it if you're near Sendai."

Sendai Washington Hotel

"I was again impressed with the Hotel Management and Staff at the Front Desk, I was traveling away for a night but returning to Washington Hotel in Sendai. The staff made it easy and stored my extra luggage for free which made it real easy for me to get around. The rooms are clean, the bathroom really nice with a lot of space. It is steps away from everything you might need. This was my first time to Japan, I stayed at several other hotels during my visit, Washington Hotel had the best service."

Hotel Metropolitan Sendai East
Sendai,Sendai - View on map
"This was the perfect hotel for my first trip to Sendai. It is located within Sendai Station - very convenient: shops and food choices abound! The staff members were accommodating, even before I arrived. They replied to every inquiry I had via email, and received important parcels on my behalf, which I claimed upon arrival. When I got injured during my outing, they were very helpful, and gave me first aid. The breakfast buffet was great - my favorites were the stew with beef and veggies, the fish (I think it was mackerel), and the strawberry jam. There is only one thing I didn't particularly like - the narrow escalator from the entrance to the reception area, and only because of my luggage. Other than that, everything was wonderful. If I ever return to Sendai, I would surely stay here again :)"

"I love Sendai. Not many tourist sites but good for day trips. The city itself is pretty, clean, has wide streets and has no sky scrapers so it feels very open. The hotel is smart and efficient with good amenities and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Excellent value for money."

Value The Hotel Sendai Natori
Natori,Sendai - View on map
"I stayed at Value The Hotel Sendai Natori for lack of other choices, but there's nothing to complain about. It's a very decent place for travelers on a budget, even with the lack of public transportation except taxis. My room was quite large for a Japanese hotel, exceedingly neat and with good lighting. Surprisingly, the toilet seat wasn't the customary washlet, just a regular one, but I guess it comes with the two stars. Coin laundromats are available if needed. Breakfast didn't offer much in terms of choice, but the traditional food was tasty and filling. All in all, quite fine for an overnight stay."

More about Sendai

Known as the 'City of Trees', Sendai is a small green city on the island of Honshu. Most international visitors will arrive by air via Sendai Airport, which links to hotels in Sendai city center via an express train – the journey takes around 25 minutes.

The city was founded in the early 1600s and history buffs will find Sendai to be a fascinating city. It is home to the largest Tanabat festival in Japan, attracting around two million visitors who come to celebrate the stars Altair and Vega reaching their zenith. A traditional part of the Tanabata festival involves hanging paper decorations from bamboo with wishes and prayers enclosed inside, a practice that has evolved over centuries into origami. Booking a hotel in Sendai during Tanabat is particularly difficult, so visitors should plan well ahead of time.

Positioned as it is in a bountiful position between the mountains and the sea, Sendai boasts excellent regional cuisine. Seafood, fruits and vegetables are all well-represented in local dishes, the city particularly noted high quality sushi, sashimi, and sake. Sendai has its own special version of miso and beef tongue and wagashi are also popular local treats. Most Sendai hotels will have an attached restaurant that can offer guests a sample of local cuisine.

One Sendai attraction for sightseers is Sendai Castle. The ruins sit upon Mount Aoba in the center of town and offer panoramic views over Sendai. A monument and several original sections of the castle stand on the site, currently being rebuilt after bombing during WWII destroyed much of it.
