Great frontline staff and clean rooms!”

It's been some time since I set foot in Kota Kinabalu and hubby decided that we go on a spontaneous weekend trip (15-17 July 2011) with our 8-year old daughter and our best friends (a couple) who were on their first trip to East Malaysia. No mountaineering and far-away parks, just food and short getaways and relaxation kinda trip. Hubby has stayed in Beverly before for his business trips and suggested this hotel to us. I am in the travel industry myself and has never stayed at this hotel. My friend was having her birthday on a Saturday and I wanted everything to go right. I read reviews on this hotel all over the Net and also called the Hotel to find out more information and details before I decided to book online (ours was a package tied with Air Asia while I booked theirs through Agoda as there was a big sale on rooms at that time and they could not get the same rate at the same time when I booked ours). I can't believe the amazing staff that they have at Beverly. Firstly, our flight was arriving early at 1025 and I requested for an early check-in a few days before our departure. No hassles, agreed instantly! Then, I asked if their rooms really had a view as I read all the differing comments in here. Since it was my friend's birthday and their first visit to Sabah, I said it was ok that my room was without a view but theirs was with as I wanted them to have a nice experience. And views we both got! The sunset views from our rooms were quite spectacular, actually! Secondly, we were on the 11th Floor and our rooms were upgraded to Deluxe (mine) and Junior Suite (my friends) without any extra charges. Rooms were clean and spacious. Thirdly, our check-in upon arrival was done quickly and efficiently by Ms Ann Marie, she was so friendly and very informative too. Despite Beverly not located smack in the middle of town, we had our own transport to move around so it was easy. Do give them a try! It's nice to wake up to smiles daily!

Good Quality accommodation for a reasonable price”

well, my wife and i had a lovely holiday @ sabah oriental hotel. it was a good deal for us; we paid a reasonable price for really good quality of accommodation. the lobby was inviting and cozy, especially in the evening when live music performs. we only had breakfasts in the hotel which was delightful. i also need to say that it was located within a 10-minute walking distance from kk downtown. it is also possible to get buses to different destinations, even airport, from a terminal in the neighborhood. i should mention that buses are really cheap but not on schedule. moreover, you may find it inconvenient during the day. there are buses to airport, called l.l.t, but you'd better keep in mind that only take them if you have plenty time left to your departure. the only thing we didn't like was the cake we bought from hotel lounge. we hardly could eat it. in sum, sabah oriental hotel promoted us a pleasing stay.

Big, nice room for a small price”

i loved my stay at sabah oriental hotel. i initially booked it for it's bigger rooms compared to the other hotels in the city with similar price. i am staying alone but i have big luggages and i wanted a relaxing stay after my mt. kinabalu climb. i wasn't disappointed. the bed was big & comfortable, the hot shower works without a fault, and the breakfast buffet was more than i expected. i ended up being full on my first morning and never went hungry again until 3pm for lunch. it's not in the city center, but rather at one end of the city. kk is rather small and you can walk from this hotel to the other end in 20-30 minutes. you can also take the public transport terminal just across the road in wawasan plaza (5-minute walk). hotel can get you a taxi anytime if you prefer to take a cab.

Great Hotel”

We only stayed for one night each going and coming back from Sabah but the hotel was very nice. When we go back again I will definitely like to stay there longer with the family and if my parents come with us. The lobby is lovely and so are the rooms that we stayed in. We had superior on th way in to Sabah and deluxe on the way out, though I couldn't see any difference except we were 6 floors hight=er on the 9th with no balcony. Overall I would definitely recommend this hotel it's very clean, staff are great and I love the buffet breakfasts in Malaysia. It's been 6yrs since we were there and at the time it was the Beverly hotel. Great time just wish we had family living there in Kota Kinabalu not Kota Belud so we could have more time there

Nice hotel, great service, great location”

One of my preferred hotel in kota kinabalu. It is located just outside the busy boundary of kk city centre. Basically you are outside from the busiest part of the town yet you still can walk by foot to the city cemtre and by car, it only took 2 minutes (this because of the traffic light). The service is great, the staff is doing the best that they can to provide comfort. The room is spacious. The room is clean but it look a bit old. There is a nice view from our hotel window. We can see the busy kk town center and at the same time we can see the beautiful view of mount kinabalu. The breakfast is nice. There is a lot of variety to choose from. The restaurant environment somehow make me feel like i am home. Maybe because i have stay in this hotel quite a few time already. I love the lobby environment. The tapai lounge provide variety of drinks and nice relaxing music. You would definitely need to go the bar and relax with your family. I would highly recommend this hotel for family or couple who just want to relax yet at the same time want an easy access to town center.

Very nice hotel with views”

The Sabah oriental hotel is a modern hotel in every sense of the word. The decor is very nice,concierge service available for those needs. The room was big,the bed very comfortable and the bathroom very fancy. There was a balcony with views of mount Kinabalu. There was a desk for rental car booking and day trips in the surrounding area.

Nice hotel for a mid-range budget”

this hotel is about 5 min away by taxi (10rm) to kk. hotel staff are very friendly. hotel looks like it used to be a posh hotel, but because it's not been maintained well, the infrastructure looks old, maybe due to changes in management (this hotel used to be called karamunsing hotel, then beverly hotel, now sabah oriental hotel). you can still see hints of its glory days though. the hotel will look great again if it refurbished here and there. the service was excellent, hotel staff was very friendly and helpful, and can make good recommendations with regards to your holiday activities. all staff were able to converse equally well in malay and english.

Great Location, Big Rooms friendly horst”

Our stay at Sabah Oriental Hotel was very impressed. We stay at 2 rooms and my children enjoy staying there and we will return to the Hotel when we have time again. Hotel service was very friendly and they always with a smile when talk to you and we took their free bus to the market and shopping mall accept the Hotel only provide 1way transport and the return we must take a taxi back to the hotel.

Although the hotel is tucked away from the city, access to many shopping area is not a problem. choices for taxi is available at the front lobby and also you can take a brisk walk to KK Warisan City area or to the popular Imago Mall. The staff is very courteous and helpful to get you around the city and recommended many eating places. The stay at Sabah Oriental Hotel was pleasant and the breakfast is worth for the money, though it was not great. A good hotel for short holiday and during my stay the Hotel was free from hustle and bustle of the city road traffic. Fully recommendable and great value for money.

Excellent value for money”

my wife and i had our honeymoon in kota kinabalu and we booked our hotel for the 1st night at beverly hotel since it is very near the airport and other shopping centers. during check-in at almost midnight, the hotel receptionist was very accomodating and even discussed to us the do's and dont's in travelling in kota kinabalu. we had our dinner in a seafood restaurant which is just a few blocks away from the hotel. breakfast is also good with very friendly waiters. the cost of our stay there is way way cheaper than what we expected and we will definitely book again here the next time we come back!

Nice stay with comfortable room”

My family and i very satisfied with our stay at Sabah Oriental Hotel. We go there for my conference and family vacation at the same time. When i go to conference, my wife and our baby enjoy their stay at hotel. After breakfast in the morning, they go back to our room and watching television. Besides, we also went to the swimming pool and enjoy ourselves there. Their staff also were very friendly. They always guide us on our tour at Kota Kinabalu. They got us a rent car and taxi. The food also very delicious. My baby ate much during her breakfast. The porridge making my baby cannot stop eating them..

Facilities was well maintain”

Even this is an old Hotel (before was recognized as Crystal Crown Hotel) an refurbished to Sabah Oriental Hotel, those all kind facilities are well maintain, cleanliness and poll are nice. Variety of breakfast and many choices from local food and light breakfast. Definitely will come again. Thank you.

Pretty Decent”

It's a great stay. Shopping malls and convenience stores are across the main road though. But then again they have a somewhat mini convenience store in the hotel itself. There was free parking for guests, but no elevator from the car park, so it can be a hassle carrying baggage from the car. The free breakfast buffet was wonderful. There was quite the selection. The pool was so-so. But overall, Sabah Oriental Hotel is a recommended stay in my opinion. You'll get what you paid for.

Good Hotel”

I stayed about 2 nights and 3 Days. Generally I found the hotel is best value for money. The hotel offers you a 5 star service with a 3 star price. The hotel is located at the central location at the heart of Kota Kinabalu. Facilities is superb such as gym, pool and room service. Food is equivalent to any of the 5 star hotel in town.

Awesome hotel with great staff”

had an awesome stay at sabah oriental hotel. all staffs were amazing very helpful and friendly. the hotel serves fantastic varieties of dishes for breakfast ranging from english, asian and chinese cuisine.. it has a beautiful lounge to hang out at night where there is usually a band or singer performing their show

Great 4-Star Hotel”

we choose karamunsing or beverly hotel due to its location tight between the tanjung aru and kota kinabalu town. you can take bus or taxi or even walk for 15 minutes to the centre of town. the hotel is quite an old hotel, however, well maintained and beautifully decorated. the hotel room facilities was excellent. it has a large room with balcony and even a nice slipper and robe for its resident. aircon, hot shower and cable tv work well. the hotel is located right next to indonesian embassy, a shopping mall and bsn bank which facing the karamunsing road.

A great hotel to stay”

I always like the rooms with have a ceiling fan install and I'm always looking forward to their breakfast buffet. Location of the hotel is good enough which is at Kota Kinabalu. Parking space provided is good which the car is not expose to sunlight all the time and space is good enough to drive. Staffs are very polite and very friendly and this is a really great hotel to stay and spend my time in Kota Kinabalu with my Family.

Big Rooms and wervice with a smile”

I am pleasantly stay in Sabah Oriental Hotel formerly was call Beverly Hotel! Good Service (always smile), location (walk to town 10 minutes), big room (supprise the value price got the bigger room and washroom), valueable (only US$45 p.n), housekeeping was perfect, free parking for inhouse guest, free local west breakfast....overall are perfect for me!!!! Good Job!!!

So nice we booked it twice”

Although the Beverly Hotel is looking a little shabby, we enjoyed our stay so much that we booked it again on our return to Kota Kinabalu a week after our first visit. The main reason was the very friendly staff. Nothing was too much of a bother for them. From a very early check in (7.00am) to a late departure and the offer to store bags cinched the deal for us. The hotel is only a short walk to two of the big shopping centres and there is a supermarket very close by. The hotel also has a large taxi rank right at the door. Breakfast was included in our very reasonable room rate. Overall we found the meals (including breakfast) to be of a fairly high standard and certainly reasonable in cost. The hotel unfortunately does not have too much of a view (we booked a junior suite for both stays and ended up ocean side on the sixth and ninth floors, so had a view of the ocean, but I would think the lower floors would not get too much of a view, particularly if you are in a room on the city side. All in all a very pleasant stay. One that I would certainly say was value for money compared to some of the other hotels we have stayed at in KK and Sabah in general.
