Furama Chiang Mai (SHA Plus+)
Huay Kaew,Chiang Mai - View on map
"This big hotel has 17 floors and it is quite modern and luxurious. The rooms are way bigger than is normal in hotels in Chiang Mai. Our room on the 16th floor had a great view, and was just one floor below the rooftop where there is also a pool. There is another pool and a small gym on the 5th floor. There are some restaurants in the hotel, and two on the rooftop, of which one has a live band playing most nights. The cocktails that are served are also not bad. It is not located in the old centre of Chiang Mai but more close to the hipper and newer Niman neighborhood. A lot of restaurants, bars and shops can be found here. It is also on the way to Doi Suthep. All in all, I was very satisfied and I did not expect to have such a great time at a big chain hotel."

Hotel M Chiang Mai (SHA Extra Plus)
Old City,Chiang Mai - View on map
"Located next door to a night market area with a really good atmosphere. A 20 minute stroll from Chiang Mai night-bazaar. To get to the bazaar you can walk through the main bar street: Loi Kroh road. The room was modern and very well presented. Wifi worked fine in the room. An access key can be picked up from reception and will last 24 hours each. Also had 3 desktop PC's situated in the lobby. No complaints about wifi here. Laundry. I was advised by a member of staff to use the laundry to the left of the hotel when you walk out of the reception. The old lady appears not to have an identification system and also "forgot" to return one of my shirts. Luckily I checked mine. Reception staff appeared as friendly at this hotel. No complaints about them. The one-day trip to Chiang Rai, the golden triangle, and long-neck tribe is an interesting, if long, day out. Beware that the price (circa 700 baht) you are charged at the office in Chiang Mai does not cover the cost of the boat on the Mekong (300 baht) or the cost to see the long neck tribe (300 baht). The white temple at Chiang Rai is beautiful."

Lotus Pang Suan Kaew Hotel (SHA Plus+)
Huay Kaew,Chiang Mai - View on map
"we live in dubai but we travel to chiang mai at least once a month as our children study in boarding school in chiang mai. we stay in many many highend places in chiang mai which were really nice and pricey. after we found "lotus pang suan kaew chiang mai" and stay here, it's just right about the location, safety, service and the hotel offer all guests free pick up from chiang mai airport too! we went back ther more than 7 times already since march 2011 and we booked the rooms with "agoda.com" only because so far this website is the best price and the best promotion (free room upgrade) compared to the others. i can pay 3 rooms per night as equal price as one night only @ the hotels i stay in chiang mai before. our family from uk also love this place, it's look gorgeous when you take pictures. Stay with Nimman Chiang Mai (SHA Plus+)
Nimmanhemin,Chiang Mai - View on map
"Stay with Nimman was the best hotel we stayed at throughout our travels around Thailand. The price was amazing for such a great quality place. Everything in our room, from the sheets to the bathroom, was spotless. And free minibar and waters? Yes! It is a bit of a walk to old town, but it is easy to take one of those red trucks. Also, there is a lot to do around Stay with Nimman as it is a more modern growing location. A must try in Chiang Mai is khao soi noodles!"

Top North Hotel
Old City,Chiang Mai - View on map
"This is about the 8th time we have stayed at Top North, why? Because it is inexpensive, central to everything, clean and generally quiet. The staff are friendly and helpful and the breakfast whilst not lavish is suitable and sufficient for the general traveller. One not of caution, this time we were allocated room 407, which was roomy, clean and comfortable and provided a quiet nights rest. However for the infirm or elderly the shower/bath may be an issue as it stands approximately 70 cm - 2'4" inches high making access difficult for the elderly or anyone with hip or back problems. Our friend was allocated room 400, which had a lower shower/bath access. The owners have over the years slowly improved all the facilities in the hotel and it is now (for me) one of the best 'value for money', location wise hotels in Chiang Mai, with its large pool, pool bar and in-house massage facilities."

Duangtawan Hotel (SHA Plus+)
Night Bazaar,Chiang Mai - View on map
"I have stayed at many hotels in Chiang Mai on business trips. This one was by far the best in the downtown area near the Night Bazaar. For me, location is very important in Chiang Mai. This is the best hotel in the location if you want luxury at a good value. The food here was very good also. This was our first time taking young children with us to Chiang Mai. The staff were very friendly and helpful with the children who were ages 1 and 3. We will definitely come back to the Centara. We love Chiang Mai."

Raming Lodge Hotel (SHA Extra Plus)
Night Bazaar,Chiang Mai - View on map
"In July 2011 I went to Thailand with my family, 2 adults & 2 children (5 & 12 years old. For our 6 day stay In Chiang Mai we chose the Raming Lodge based on the very positive reviews on Agoda. The positive rating of this hotel turned out to be well deserved & the hotel was even better than expected. The Raming lodge was one of the best hotels of our Thailand trip. We got connecting rooms which are very practical for families (but quite difficult to find in Thailand). Rooms were really charming: nicely decorated, spacious, well equipped (air-conditioning, fridge, wardrobes,…)& clean. There was also a swimming pool at the hotel, which was highly appreciated by our children. Breakfast (included in the roomrate) was good & varied. There was a good choice of western & Asian food. The restaurant of the hotel also served good food at lunch. Note that there are several other restaurants in the street, so you don’t need to go very far to have a meal if you prefer to eat outside the hotel. Staff was very kind, helpful & smiling. It is clear that the Raming Lodge does everything to please the guests. We booked a 2 day/1 night trek at the travel agency of the hotel. The trek was of high quality & well organized. It was not more expensive than in other travel agencies. As we booked the trek at the hotel we got vouchers for a free foot massage at the spa of the hotel. The massage was really relaxing & performed by specialists. The Raming Lodge is very well located, just in between the Night Bazar & the old city of Chiang Mai. Everything is at walking distance. As mentioned in some other reviews, there are some go-go bars in the street nearby the hotel but this was not at all disturbing. Street was safe. We strongly recommend this hotel for those who are looking for a charming well located hotel in Chiang Mai. This hotel is also perfect for families & those who want to take some rest & take benefit of a spa."

Rustic River Boutique Hotel
Chang Moi,Chiang Mai - View on map
"My wife and I spent eight nights at this little hotel. We loved our room, it was well equipped with air-con plus a wall-mounted a fan, a very modern TV, fridge, and coffee and tea-making facilities, it was also quiet, comfortable, and quite quirky too with all the plain wood furnishings! The Reception area was equally uniquely small, as was the breakfast and lounge, which was the same place in truth. OK, it is a small place, but it all worked well, the use of wood throughout gave it a very warm feel. The young staff were really fantastic. They all spoke excellent English, were knowledgable about the city and the surrounding area, and were keen to offer suggestions on the markets and shops; they were also very interesting to talk to about Thai life in Chiang Mai in general. My wife and I also loved the location, set near to the the river, near to a bridge that gave access to the restaurants on the other side, near to a really huge market, and just 5 minutes walk from the old city. Buri Siri Boutique Hotel

"Simply great. Everything exceeded my expectations. The rooms are super clean, everything works, the pool is wonderful, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the breakfast is extensive. Also, the bed deserves a medal. It's the comfiest thing I've slept on in years. Hands down the best place I stayed at in Chiang Mai, and cheap too! If you're considering Buri Siri, just book it. You won't regret it."

More about Chiang Mai

Located in the north of Thailand, Chiang Mai is the country’s second largest and second oldest city. As such, it provides an excellent base from which to discover the culture of Thailand. Hundreds of temples are scattered throughout, and anywhere visitors go, they are sure to see pagodas peeking up over the tree line. Visible from all over the city, Doi Suthep Mountain features the most dignified temple of the area on the fringe of the city center.

Shopping is certainly an option here, especially for those looking for handicrafts, delicate carvings, silk, and original artwork. Other than the typical tourist finds of shopping and popular sites, guests can also really immerse themselves in the city by enrolling in cooking, language, yoga, or massage classes. Guided meditation retreats to mountain monasteries, trips to conservation projects such as the Elephant Nature Park, and homestays in remote hill-tribe villages are also very popular for visitors of Chiang Mai.

In the evenings, international restaurants and nightclubs can be found throughout the town. Riverside clubs, the hostess bars of Loy Kroh, and the ultra-chic lounges on Nimmanhemin Road all provide fantastic opportunities to celebrate the memorable experiences gained while in Chiang Mai.

Those traveling to Chiang Mai will be served by Chiang Mai International Airport.
