"As said in the title, the hostel was very clean, the staff very friendly and helpful and the hostel's location ist extremely central - right in front of the main station (Hamburg Hauptbahnhof). Even though we booked a twin room, we got upgraded to a 4-bed room (maybe just bc the rooms were free and/or our still occupied?) and also got two towels after asking, which are included in the single and twin rooms, but not in the bigger ones. Each bed had very convenient plugs for all our electronic devices (2 power outlets and 2 USB sockets) and even a small reading lamp. The bed were pretty narrow (80cm?). It might be sufficient for a person like me (1,66m/60kg), but I don't know how it might feel for taller/wider guests. The bathrooms were kinda small and very much the same as the Japanese business hotel bathrooms: slightly elevated and the inside walls are all plastic. The toilet was just a normal one though - no high-tech ;) But everything was very clean. Besides being right in front of the main station our room (416) was very quiet except for the occasional heavy thump from the guest right above us. The breakfast buffet for 5,50€ (not included in room prices) was a little disappointing - dry bread (albeit 3 types to choose from) and cheap meat (pork and chicken) and cheese. Hardly any veggies and no fruit. The coffee was instant and tasted awful. There was plenty of prepacked tea to choose from though and cereals, which we didn't try. I'd advise to get something to eat from one of the coffee shops in the main station for breakfast. It won't be necessarily more expensive, but definitely tastier. Overall we really liked the hostel. Given the opportunity, I'm definitely coming back. I might add that we were weekend sightseeing tourists, away from around 9am to 10pm or later and just needed a clean, private place to sleep at and didn't expect any luxury or room service."

"The very central location makes it so ideal to travel from place to place. For example, the Staatsoper Hamburg is only 10 minutes away using public transportation and a lot of the sites are only a walk away. My only complaint about the hotel is that the internet was really slow and tended to fluctuate. It was understandable because the hotel was located in one of the busiest parts of Hamburg. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to conveniently go around Hamburg."

"Our stay in the Renaissance Hamburg was OK. The hotel is honestly fine. It's not 5-star by any stretch of the imagination, in any city or situation. Even the hotel exterior has the rating down as 4-star, as far as I recall. Regardless, set your expectations for a 4-star experience. Staff and public areas are fine. Location of the hotel is tough to beat, very close to Alster Lake. The bar is a great respite after a long day of trudging around Hamburg taking in the sites. It's a good thing too, because the rooms are not exactly up to the standard of the rest of the hotel. Old crunchy carpet, old CRT TV, old furnishings, outdated bathroom, dingy wallpaper. The furnishings could be charming if the rest of the room were updated, but with everything else they just seem old. I wouldn't avoid the hotel in the future, but I definitely wouldn't go out of my way to stay there again unless they update the rooms."
