Convenient location, good service with a smile”
The De Chai The Colonial Hotel is a small boutique hotel, located within easy walking distance of the old part of Chiang Mai and the Night Bazaar area. The property is fairly new and well maintained and the rooms are comfortable and very clean. Although the facilities are limited, we had a very pleasant 3-day stay at the hotel and would recommend it for anyone paying a short visit to Chiang Mai. The small Spa in the basement is well run and good value.

Beautiful Hotel”
we really enjoyed our stay at de chai. the room & bathroom were beautifully appointed. the bed was soft and very comfortable. the location was very quiet, but still only a 10 minute walk to the night bazaar, for those who love their shopping, and 5 minutes in the opposite direction to the edge of the old city (although the temples within are at the opposite end of it). the breakfast was the best that i've had in thailand, the buffet seems small, but they have a cooked breakfast option, which means you'll get a similar range to what other hotels offer, but you know it's fresh, the quality of the food is also a notch above what i'd been used to getting from similarly priced hotels! the staff were also friendly and helpful. the only thing i would have liked that they don't have is a fitness room, but if i'm honest with myself - it's likely i wouldn't have had time to use it anyway! overall we were very happy with our stay, and i wouldn't hesitate to recommend de chai as a place to stay to others going to chiang mai. the price was very reasonable for such a well presented hotel.

Friendly service and great rooms”
This was my first time traveling by myself so I was a bit weary but the de chai hotel was fantastic! The service was great! The front desk helped me to book tours for my trip in chiang mai. Each staff was friendly and helpful and you could tell that they genuinely cared about your experience in their hotel. The rooms were beautiful and very clean. The windows opened up into a great view. I stayed on the fourth floor and still got a great view. As a solo traveller, I felt very safe and taken care of in this hotel. I also went to the spa at the basement and had a pleasant experience there as well. And free wifi which was very helpful when planning out my next days. Overall, great hotel, great service, beautiful rooms, relaxing spa, and super friendly hotel staff. Also, only about a ten minute walk to the famous night bazaar! I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Only two minor drawbacks at this hotel which really didn't affect my stay personally. There is a very small swimming pool in the front of the hotel and a very small restaurant. But if you're in Chiangmai to see the sights, you won't spend much time there anyway.

Excellent services, Great location, Nice room”
It was a very good experience with De Chai The Colonial Hotel: - Superb services, staffs are very nice and supportive. - Size of room is much bigger than I expected, the view is superb on the 5th floor, - Bed and bath tub is very comfortable, - Wifi is fast and stable. Highly recommended!! Some minor issue, the hotel is not famous, many drivers dont know the address. Breakfast choices is not much, but the order-to-make dishes are good. The pool is kinda small, this hotel is not for pool lovers. Little suggestion to management, the roof top can be decoration to a leisure area for customers, dont waste the 360 view of Chiang Mai City =)

Excellent hotel in a prime location”
This was the fourth or fifth time I have stayed at the De Chai The Colonial Hotel, and I return every year because I have not found a better hotel in Chiang Mai. Large, modern rooms with every convenience, the location in a quiet soi, but only a few meters from one of the main roads -- and restaurants, bars, and market within walking distance. The staff are friendly, the breakfast is above average, and the price is about right.

Excellent : tasteful and eye for detail”
in fact this is in many respects a five star hotel, but without the impersonal service of many of the real big five star hotels. brand-new hotel (less than 1 year) in a very quiet side-street, just a few hundred meters outside the eastern city wall. everything expected and needed (and even more) is available. large rooms, extremely tasteful and modernly decorated (but also romantic) with an eye for detail. great and strong showers, nice bathtub. very comfortable beds and pillows. aircon is very powerful and relatively noisy. free wifi throughout the hotel. very good and cheap in-house massage-facilities (currently with promotional price). swimming pool (covered and rather small; seems to be more for decoration). breakfast buffet is relatively modest. staff is very friendly and helpful. if you don't mind to spend more money than really needed for decent accommodation in central chiang mai, then don't hesitate to go to de chai !

Beautiful room on a quiet soi”
We stayed at the Colonial in October 2012. The location is convenient to the old city (through the Tha Phae gate) with free off-street parking. Everything was within walking distance with plenty of good restaurants, shops and the night bazaar and easy stroll from the hotel. The room was about 40 square meters with a beautiful bathroom. Although the room was somewhat large, there was no sofa or table with chairs to use in the main room which would have been useful. Overall, the room was extremely clean and well appointed per a 4-star hotel. The breakfast service needs improvement though. A 4-star hotel should NOT serve frozen hash brown patties and greasy, undercooked bacon. The hotel is a definite recommend.

Everything was fantastic”
i had a change of plans and arrived a day early, hoping for a vacancy. it was festival time and de chai was fully booked, but the manager/owner went out of his way to find me accommodation for that night - he even had his driver take me to the alternative accommodation. the next day when i saw my room - just beautiful!. i enjoyed a spa treatment during my stay and breakfast was more than enough. the actual location of de chai is brilliant - easy walk to the old town and for the sunday market and then an easy walk to the night bazaar. i will stay here again next time i'm in chiang mai.

Wonderful Hotel”
De Chai was a wondeful hotel! out of all the hotels we stay in during our trip to Thailand including Chiang Mai, Bangkok and Phuket, De Chai was our favorite. The staff was friendly upon arrival and helpful. We arrived 2 hours early, our room was not aviaible yet so they gave us a free upgrade and checked us in within 20 minutes. The location was wonderful, short walking distance to resturants, night bizzar. I would definatly come back to stay at this hotel again if we are in the are.

De Chai”
This was my second time at the De Chai. The hotel is very clean and the room was spacious. Internet speed was good. Bed was very comfortable and the air con quiet. There are free snacks with the tea and coffee making facilities which was a nice touch and these are restocked daily. Breakfast is a good buffet style which is pretty standard but they will cook to order if you ask them. The location is excellent which is why I choose this hotel, having stayed on Tapae Road many times. Walking to the old city is less than ten minutes and there are plenty of songthaew to get you about. However Chiang Mai is better on foot in my opinion and this hotel is within walking distance of most of the Wats and the night markets. Overall I enjoyed my stay here.

Excellent rooms but a bit too pricey”
De Chai The Colonial is hidden down a small soi off the main road towards the night market. Close to Thapae gate and the aforementioned market, it is pretty well located but may be a bit out of the way for some. The room was impressive, with a large bed, clean linens and a full range of TV channels. The semi open plan bathroom (which can be closed) is nice with a bathtub and the usual amenities. The hotel itself is beautiful and there is a pool and spa on site although we used neither. The breakfast buffet is what you would expect. Overall, we liked the hotel but it is a bit pricey compared to the excellent value for money you can get if you're willing to go to a lower price point. I booked this hotel because it was my girlfriend's birthday and we wanted somewhere nice and comfortable to recover from a scooter accident days before. Otherwise, with the amount of other options, I probably would not stay here again if you are willing to go for more budget options. However, if this is the type of hotel you are looking to stay in, it has everything you need.

Good hotel in central, quiet location ”
This hotel offered good value for money and, as other travellers had reported, excellent service from friendly staff. The hotel is pretty new, with spacious and well appointed rooms, and offers a good breakfast (with eggs freshly cooked to order and a selection of coffees made on request). We enjoyed its location in a quiet side street off one of the main roads, and it was within easy walking distance of the old city area and the Night Bazaar and the river too. The proximity to the main road meant it was easy to get transport to attractions outside Chiang Mai. The pool is nice, and covered, but there is not much space to sit in the sun around it to sunbathe if that is what you like to do. All up we were pleased we had chosen De Chai The Colonial Hotel for our stay.

"Lovely hotel, service and location"”
We were picked up in a new van from the airport and taken to the hotel. It was roomy, clean and the bed is so comfortable. The bathroom had everything you need and daily cleaning service is great. We had a hot breakfast each day along with gerat coffee and fresh fruits. The bar service is minimal but you have to ask and it is there. Staff took great interest in where we had been and what we planned to do each day. The location is great, 5mins from old town gates and 10mins from night bazaar in other direction. Tuk tuk or sungthu are both easy to get from hotel. For laundry we walked out left of hotel and first laundry on right side of road. Great service, cloths were like new when we collected them. Over all an amazing holiday and would suggest De Chai to anyone going to Chiang Mai.

Perfect just book it”
my wife and i were so happy we selected de chai as our hotel for our very first visit to chiang mai and we were not disappointed. the room was very charming and spacious, the bathroom and fittings outstanding. we have a business so wifi is absolutely vital to us to remain in touch with our customers. the complimentary connection in our room was excellent so we could use all our devices simultaneously. if you're seeking a bit of luxury at a reasonable price then don't hesitate to book as you will enjoy staying at de chai.

Good hotel in a great location”
De Chai The Colonial was a good hotel very close to both the Old City and the Night Bazaar (right in the middle of the two) which allowed for easy walking of Chiang Mai. The rooms were spacious and clean. Breakfast was only okay - not a lot of selection. The staff were fine and moderately helpful, but I encourage you to find your own transportation around the city. Taxis coordinated by the hotel come at a significant upcharge. When we asked the front desk staff for advice they directed us to the most expensive options which wasn't appreciated. I would stay here again though because the location was so terrific.

Dear McCauley, Thank you for your recent stay and a useful feedback. We were delighted to know you love our hotel, especially the location. Anyway, we've proved our staffs about Taxi and found that they just offered you the most convenient choice. However, we will improve our staffs about taxi recommendation. We look forward to your next stay. Best regards, de chai the colonial hotel
Classy hotel hidden up a narrow street”
The De Chai is actually a really nice hotel in Chiang Mai. We have been to CM a number of times and tried various places just to see what's on offer. We were upgraded to a Deluxe something but a very nice room on the 5th floor. Very large bath and shower as well as high ceilings throughout. Staff were very helpful and friendly all the time. Breaky was ok but as good as you get in Asia. Location was good but my wife would have liked it closer to the night bazaar. Even so it's only a 10 min stroll. I liked it because it was quiet and closer to the old city. Laundry was just up the street as was scooter hire and ATM's etc. Very good location

Will choice this hotel next time if go to Chiang Mai again.

Delightful hotel and excellent staff”
de chai the colonial is situated central to the shopping districts, night markets and restaurants, however the neighbourhood was quiet and peaceful at night. we extended our stay by a few days as we liked the hotel very much. they charged us the same price as through agoda. all staff were friendly, helpful and obliging. we have no hesitation in recommending the de chai to others.

The reason we add Chiang Mai every year”
We have returned to Chiang Mai every year that we have been going to Thailand (10 years)not only for the lay-back atmosphere of CM, but how much we enjoy staying at De Chai! We usually stay several days in CM from Bangkok. We find new places to visit for the day from CM every year. We have been known to stray a little farther from CHiang Mai, but after a few days of travel return to Chiang Mai just to end there. LOVE THIS PLACE, and the staff make us feel so welcome every time!
