Empress - Home away from Home”
As a regular visitor to Thailand, but a first time visitor to Chiang Mai, I "sort-of" had some preconceptions of what to expect. Based on the price we paid I tuned-up my wife to be less-than-impressed with where we were about to stay. Well, did I eat my words or what !! The Empress is bloody fantastic ! We had just come from a week in Singapore staying in a hotel with three times the room rate, and the Empress made that place look like a humpy !! Room was nice and large, bright, dry (yes dry!!, the place in SG smelt and felt damp the whole time), good wireless internet access (note: at fist this seems expensive, but its not. The hours are cummulative not consecutive. I ended up not even consuming my full 12 hours worth). The food is all buffet style, but with a huge selection. You will never go hungry at the Empress. Even getting free Cognac and Roses for the missus !! The staff are all awesome and even helped us out a bit with our learning Thai. Location is good too. We hired a motorbike but only ende up using it once because eeverything was so close. Just wander up and down Chang Klan road and you'll find everything you need (and some things you don't). We met a dutch couple who come to Chiang Mai for three months of every year and they always astay at the Empress... so will we from now on !! We actually ended up staying 2 more days at Empress Chaing Mai, and shortening our time in BKK as a result. Happy we did.

Still Empresses!”
This is the 2nd time I’ve stayed here. The 1st time was 5 years ago and I loved the place. This 2nd time didn’t disappoint. Lovely room, good food and an army of friendly staff. The breakfast buffet has much variety, catering for all tastes and there are many staff on watch to top up your coffee. The Lobby tourist information desk is helpful. It is 10 minutes’ walk to the Night Markets however, they have become overpriced with limited variety of goods. However, this is the best location nearby for a wide range of mid to higher priced cafes, restaurants and bars. Without these markets (starting at 6 pm) the nearby eating, drinking and shopping options are limited. Chiang Mai is a large city where tourist attractions are spaced a long way apart. There is not really a central Chiang Mai location for a hotel. There are plenty of transport options from the Empress. The airport is some 20 minutes’ drive away, costing around 160 THB by taxi. Chiang Mai has a very broad variety of attractions and a range of organised tours are available. Such tours usually include visits to wildlife and adventure activities plus jewellery and craft stores. The craft and artistry in Chiang Mai are amazing and worth seeing but can be expensive to buy. The taxi driver from the airport gave his business card, offering pre-arranged tours or a full daytime charter costing 2000 THB where you chose where you go or not go. I chose to focus on the religious, cultural and historical attractions. Visiting only these attractions took 2 full days and the driver visited many wonderful modern and ancient places. Before, I did not know that Chiang Mai had such a rich ancient history, ruins and similar attractions. These are not that well promoted as wildlife, adventure and crafts seem to have the best publicity. Sadly the Chiang Mai Zoo, which was amazing before, has gone down badly and is obviously struggling. The big drought in Thailand is not helping matters. After the disappointment of the Chiang Mai

Great hotel and service”
My criteria of hotel whether I am a business trip or holiday are the room must be clean, swimming pool, gym, suana and wifi. My youngest son, a university undergraduate's requirement are wifi and swimming pool as he is a blogger and a food reviewer. The hotel only give 1 room per login on the wifi but we requested for 2 since we brought 2 laptops with us and they gave us. I have been going through the internet on all the hotels in Chiangmai through Agoda website and I found that Empress Hotel suits our requirement and also the offer from Agoda. The location is great as it's location has all the requirement a tourist or businessman requires, 7 Eleven, massage, cafe, restaurant, laundry, pharmacies, shopping mall and others. All within walking distance and so is the night market. The staff are friendly and great service. The buffet breakfast is great too and even my wife is a fussy eater enjoys her breakfast every morning. The room is great and they make up your room in the evening and place flowers and a box of chocolate every night for our 4 nights stay. There are the usual complimentary drinking water, tea and coffee making facility too. Would I stay in Empress hotel again if I am back to Chiang Mai, it's a definitely yes. It's truly deserving to be a 4 star hotel. As for Agoda, the hotel rates are great too as I have a booked a room for a week stay in Bangkok at the Swisstotel Le Concode, Rachadaphisek Road back in June. It was a great hotel too with friendly staff and loved the freshly brewed coffee for breakfast

Great Hotel and Very Nice & Helpful Staff”
We highly appreciate Empress Hotel. Great hotel. The staff helped us instantly when we got any problems especially the chinese manager and his boss ( from Guang Dong). They helped us to solve the difficulty during traveling in Chiang Mai and advised us the best place to visit in Chiang Mai and Golden Triangle such as the best local food, exciting games (rafting, mountain motorbike etc.). The room services were the best. When we entered the rooms, a welcome gift and fruits had been placed inside the rooms and also we had the welcome drink in the bar. Everyday, a gift also were place inside the rooms for us. The location is very convenience to get the night market and easy to find the restaurant. It's a great hotel and must stay again when we come back Chiang Mai.

Exceeded our expectations”
My wife and I booked a special discount deal on Agoda for six nights at the Empress Hotel in early March. First impressions were that the hotel is very well maintained. We were pleased that we has been upgraded to an Executive Suite on the 16th (of 17) floor. The check-in process was quick and very personalised - thanks to a very engaging staff member named Panumas. We were amazed at the quality and quantity of the welcoming pack were given - never seen anything as good anywhere in our travels. Breakfast buffets were good with a reasonable range of food available. The highlight of our stay was the complimentary dinner provided to us by the hotel. Truly amazing - five courses of exceptionally presented food (in addition to the restaurant evening buffet) along with gifts for both of us. We would like to acknowledge the professionalism of our hosts Korakot and Prawet who made the evening so special. I can confidentally recommend this accommodation venue to any travellers to Chiang Mai.

Good location & Friendly staffs”
We (2 adults and 2 children (15 &6)) stayed in Empress Hotel for 6 days and 5 nights. We booked the hotel based on the reviews from the internet. The hotel was located 10 minutes walk from the famous night market. As the hotel was 50 meters off the main road, we were not disturb by the noises of the traffic. The hotel staffs are very helpful and willing to serve our requests with a smile. We were given complimentary dinner for our 5 night stay. Staffs really know how to entertain us during our dinner. It really made our day. If we are going to Chiang Mai again, Empress Hotel will be our first choice.

Top service and good value for money”
we stayed at 'the park' (same compnay) 3 months earlier, and we changed our reservaton to the 'empress' for a few dollars more, for this stay. we were not disappointed - excellent service and great room. severe flooding in chiang mai a day after we arrived caused change of plans for sightseeing + longer time in hotel. the staff clearly were aware of guest frustrations being unable to leave the hotel for over 2 days, and then having to be loaded onto the tray of an earthmoving truck, via ladder, to get to dry ground. it was memorable all the same - and some great photos !!

Great hotel! Excellent service!”
Everything was great! We were in Thailand for about 15 days. This is the first hotel we found that they have waffle and bacon for breakfast!!! Lol no need to go to starbuck for waffle anymore :-). Food was good. This hotel was the second hotel we stayed in chiang Mai. We were I'm another hotel in night bazaar location for 4 nights before we moved here. We were not happy with the first hotel we stayed and it was 4 stars hotel like the empress hotel. The empress hotel is very good hotel. Excellent staff and service nothing to complain at all. My husband and I agreed that next we come back to Chiangmai the empress hotel is where we will always stay!!

I will never stay anywhere else in Chiang Mai”
I've never been treated so well by hotel staff. This is one of the oldest hotels in Chiang Mai and it has the total Lanna culture and attitude. I don't know why my son and I got so lucky but upon arrival they upgraded us to a better room and then they brought a lovely basket of snacks with probably $40 worth of stuff in it. Then they invited us to a free 7 course dinner with free drinks. I had never stayed here and was treated like royalty. The breakfasts are superb. Freshly baked bread and anything you would want whether you are Asian or Western. If anybody asks me where to stay in Chiang Mai, I will tell them Empress Hotel.

Great Hotel”
This was our first stay in Chiang Mai, so we had no references. We researched on line and found the Empress Hotel. I was surprized to see how many of the reviews were 10 out of 10. Now I know why. The location is walking didtance to the night market, and is quiet and peaceful although it is only 1 block off the main road. We were pleasantly surprized by the quality of the complementary breakfast. Although the selection is not large, the quality of the food more than makes up. The hotel is clean, and the friendly staff will do all that they can to fulfill any requests. We would certainly stay here again.

Outstanding Hotel”
We were so pleasantly surprised by the Empress, as it exceeded our expectations, especially for the very reasonable price. The rooms are very nice in the accoutrements and cleanliness, very comfortable. It was Valentine's Day weekend, and the staff left us roses on the pillow and little valentine gift boxes.Staff were very friendly and professional, making our stay all the more enjoyable. The hotel is within easy walking distance to the Night Bazaar and Old City. The breakfast was amazing with lots of Western items, such as nicely prepared fresh omelets and real bacon, which was a nice find after our focus on Thai food for the last few weeks in Bangkok. We really enjoyed our stay, and highly recommend this hotel for visitors to Chiang Mai. 5 Stars *****!

High Praises”
We arrived in the evening to find that our reservation made on-line the same day had not been processed yet and the manager there was patient and helped us through the process of contacting the necessary party. While we were waiting to be helped the staff brought us a fruit drink that was delicious and refreshing. Our room was upgraded, not sure why, but it was lovely. The room this time and last time were very clean and beautifully decorated. It just felt good to step inside. In many hotels you can hear everything going on in the hall way and the cleaning ladies are yelling to one another. At the Empress we did not experience that at all. It was very quiet and restful. The only reason we are able to stay there is because of the awesome discounted price we get through Agoda. We look forward to many other stays in the future. We live in Thailand and have to travel to Chiang Mai once in a while for business or just to get away and visit friends.

Impressed with Empress”
For around US $40 (including breakfast), you are not going to find a better deal than the Empress....Located within a 10 minute walk to the famous Night Bazaar, the Empress has recently been renovated thus offering clean sizable rooms near the heart of the city. Breakfast buffet was large and very good and staff was courteous and responsive. You had to pay for wifi in your room and there was limited t.v channels, but most people are there to explore Chiang Mai and its environs, so these things are not really a big deal..........Nice big pool too!

Topnotch Luxury Hotel”
I can't say enough good things about the Empress. Anyone finding fault with this hotel is too used to expensive resorts. The rooms are spacious, clean, comfortable, quiet, and well-appointed. The staff is super helpful. Breakfast is a buffet with a wide choice of food items, both Thai and international, and the service is excellent. Taxis and tuk-tuks are easily accessed, and a short walk takes one to the night market. The Empress is located in an area with shops and restaurants of every description, and has three restaurants on the grounds including one that has live music. You can't go wrong staying here while in Chiang Mai.

Best deal in Chiang Mai”
I truly enjoyed my time at the Empress. The room was very clean and the turndown service was an added touch of class. The gym was great for a quick workout and the pool was fantastic. Not only was it clean, the water did not hurt my eyes in the least. However, I must say that what I enjoyed the most about the Empress was the breakfast. Not only was it fresh, but the selection was fantastic. I even asked for my eggs over medium and had them cooked to perfection (for frequent Asia travelers, you know what a miracle that is). Another nicety was with the customer service. We added a couple of nights and they allowed it at the Agoda discounted Internet fare. Overall, I was extremely pleased with the Empress and will continue to stay there when I visit Chiang Mai.

Empress Hotel Chiang Mai July 2019”
Second visit in last year. Absolutely fantastic. Now a large complex but Empress Hotel is great. The new Empress Premier Hotel and joined by a walkway is 5 star and rooms and facilities excellent but the older hotel is more Thai and has a great feel about it. As other guys say the staff are great especially the head waiter Wet. Will definitely go again and would not think of staying anywhere else in Chiang Mai. Paul Moriarty.

Empress Hotel, Chiang Mai”
My family of four greatly enjoyed our stay at the Empress Hotel in Chiang Mai. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, from giving our daughter candy on her birthday to helping us find the missing Barbie shoe! Great people. We also really enjoyed the swimming pool and breakfast buffet. The Empress is also conveniently located near excellent massage places and is within walking distance of the Night Market...though we usually used the many tuk-tuks since we have small children.

Hospitality at its best”
They really spoilt us at the Empress. From the upgraded room to the complimentary 3 course buffet dinner (with gifts, no less) to the welcome gifts waiting for us in the room, we felt really happy choosing Empress Hotel. Pros - Airport transfer available (for a fee per person). Just inform the hotel beforehand. - Upgraded to Suite, complimentary drinks and dinner, gifts (lots of chocolates and local souveniors) and fruit basket in room. - Staff were all very friendly and more than ready to assist. - At first breakfast, we woke up 15 minutes after the buffet closed. But the restaurant staff sat us down and served us a basic breakfast even though they could have easily said no. Breakfast buffet spread is ok but plentiful, focusing more on the Asian menu. - Location is a few blocks from the night markets with restaurants available around the area. They also provide free shuttle services (scheduled). - Free wifi (per equipment). Cons - Swimming pool area was being rennovated. But that didn't stop some people from enjoying the facility. Also, the view from there is amazing during sunset. - Gym was a major let down. First off, what kind of gym only opens from 10am-7pm? Notices informed that the gym had just been upgraded but when we used it, the machines appeared to have been bought from a yard sale in the 1980s.

Wonderful stay”
Had a wonderful stay at the Empress Hotel, Staff were extremely helpful and willing and added to the awesome experience we had here. The room was large and comfortable, air con worked well as did the Wi-Fi. Dined here on several occasions as well has having the plentiful breakfast each morning. Would not hesitate to stay here again or recommend it to anyone visiting Chiang Mai.
