"The White Knight Hotel Intramuros is one of Manila’s hidden gems in my opinion. This hotel is so hidden away you wouldn’t even know it’s there. It is located inside the site for Casa Manila and you have to walk through beautiful stone corridors and courtyards adorned with flowers and cute cafes to get to the actual hotel. Once there the staff were friendly and helpful and check in was problem free. I booked an executive room as this was the cheapest they had available for the night I was there and it was big and spacious with a modern bathroom and a lovely balcony looking over the maze of streets. The only problem I had with the room was that you could hear general noise in the hotel from the other side of the door, but this was not a major issue. I also made the mistake of leaving my door unlocked when I first left the room without even realising it, as I assumed it locked automatically. It doesn’t, you need to turn the knob on the handle on the inside of the door before you shut it. This was my first night in the Philippines so it was a good lesson to learn as most hotels rooms with keys operate this way. I also asked the hotel to book me a taxi to the airport the next morning, which they did (though I have a feeling they forgot as I had to wait while they did something!) and though I hope this has nothing to do with the hotel, I was charged three times the fare I had paid the previous day getting from the airport to the hotel which was outrageous compared to every other taxi fare I paid while in the Philippines. Make sure you agree a fare before you leave or ask the taxi driver to use a meter! Another lesson learned! The best thing about this hotel (other than the cute factor) is its location. It is situated opposite St Augustine’s church (which is stunning) and within the walls of Fort Santiago so is the perfect location for walking around the old Spanish colonial part of town. The hotel itself offers pretty cool day tours. "

"We stayed at Bayleaf on our final night in the Philippines after spending 10 days in the South. When we checked in they said the upgraded our room from superior to premier for no charge. The room was very nice. The sitting room was separate from the bed by the tv which ended up coming in handy because spent most of our time there at the desk working. However we were only given 1 wifi password which is only good for one device. Come on Bayleaf its 2013 we all travel with laptops, iPhones, and iPads, but that is my only real complaint. The bed was very comfortable and had a duvet cover which was nice because all the other hotels we stayed in only had a flat sheet. The bathroom was a good size and the rainfall shower was hot and decent water pressure. We had dinner at the rooftop bar. We didn't have a reservation so we couldn't get a table, but were able to sit on the couches and eat. We tried the hare hare and the oxtail, both were excellent and the portions were huge. It was very dark and we couldn't see our food at all, but the ambience was still nice. The service was good too. Breakfast is just average. I expected a better selection. The view of the golf course from the restaurant was nice even though the sun through the windows was a bit blinding. The area around the hotel is very nice to explore on foot. I enjoyed walking along the fort wall, then visiting the Cathedral, San Augustin Church, and Fort Santiago - though the Fort was closed because it was Good Friday. I also went for a run through Rizal Park which was very beautiful. A lot of trike drivers tried to stop me and offer me tours, but I think the area is best explored on foot. The staff was friendly and helpful, but no one missed an opportunity to tell me everywhere else was closed and they still had to work on Holy Thursday and Good Friday. The trip to the airport was about 30 minutes and 200PHP. I would definitely recommend staying here."
