“Good for the price”
You have to admire what they’ve done here. The hotel is truly unique, and I adore how different it is, but there are some issues. We had three of their larger (Premium) rooms which were very well priced for the space. Check in was a warn and welcoming, and we were actually taken to our rooms and shown around, which was a lovely touch. The bed is massive and super comfortable. The views from the windows and balcony are truly stunning. There were 4 bottles of water in the rooms, as well as a coffee machine. Interestingly, there’s a kettle and teapot, but no tea/teabags. Two of bottles of water are free, the other two you pay for, but I was told that all the water was free during the room tour, so that resulted in unexpected charges. There are way too many light switches, located in a million different places. It would take me nearly 10 minutes to find all the switches at bedtime. The lighting generally is a bit odd. Some lights are way too bright and could do with being dimmable - whilst other areas of the room are way too dark, making it difficult to do hair/make-up etc. particularly as there are very limited mirrors. The rooms are quite echoey and noise carries easily. They definitely need to put rugs under all the tables and chairs, as you hear every scrape when a chair in the room above is moved. I also think there is a lack of common areas. The breakfast area is too small when the hotel is full. This is also used as the dinning room for lunch/dinner and also as the bar. There’s no separation. The “rooftop” bar (as per their website) doesn’t exist. I’m told it’s still under construction. Our first breakfast was on a weekend and it was busy/chaotic. It was however quieter and much more pleasant in the week when the hotel was less busy. The staff were pleasant and helpful, as you would expect, and room service do a fantastic job. The pool looked great, but it was a little too cold for me to go in. As we waited for our taxi, I was challenged by one of the reception staff about some missing (in room) flip flips. Clearly they had been in my room seconds after I had checked out to ensuring that I had not taken anything. Obviously, I hadn’t! but had to return to the room to prove that, simply because they hadn’t looked properly. Being (albeit subtly) accused of stealing a pair of cheap flip flops in front of other guests does not sit well with me. Finally, something I mentioned when I checked out, is that I could occasionally, but clearly, smell cigarette smoke in my room. Given my location (on the sixth floor) there’s no obvious reason for this. It seemed to be coming in from the air-conditioning, so I suspect people may have been smoking near the vicinity of the air intake/compressors (wherever they may be located), in which case this needs to be addressed. Breakfast itself was good, as was the food in general. The spa is fantastic and a very reasonably price. Very much recommended. Jam (forgive spelling) was exceptional. They had a good selection of free bicycles which you can take out for free, on a ‘first come, first served’ basis. The location is brilliant. You are just on the tip of town, so can still walk to the Old Town (20-30 mins), but have the most amazing views. There is a free shuttle service if you don’t fancy/can’t manage the walk - alternatively, a Grab taxi will only cost you £1-£2. Overall, a good hotel, but I’ve enjoyed other hotels in Hoi An more, so maybe just not for me.
