All of our requests were accommodated, and it was also nice to have the MRT Roompini station nearby for easy access. We were able to enjoy the hotel's after-dinner tea set, sauce spa massage, rooftop bar, infinity pool, gym, and cafe. The TV also had Chromecast, so we could watch YouTube. Compared to other 5-star hotels along the river, the price was affordable, making it a great value for a budget vacation.

We were thrilled to stay at SO/ for three nights, and our excitement was matched by the warm welcome we received from the staff. The service was impeccable, and the majestic view from the 9th-floor lobby was a highlight. The staff’s Christmas uniforms were a delightful and thoughtful touch. However, while the experience had its high points, it fell short upon arrival in the room. The room on the 18th floor, where we stayed, is in need of refurbishment, particularly given the premium price. There were certain standards we expected from a five-star hotel that were lacking. For instance, there was only one sink, no power outlet on each side of the bed, and the minibar—which was advertised as free—contained just two cans of soft drinks. The toilet space was uncomfortably small; when seated, our knees could touch the door. Additionally, the room lacked a coffee machine or coffee pods, which are typically expected in hotels of this category. Instead, there was only a stylish kettle provided with instant coffee. The bedding was another disappointment. The pillows were very thin, leading to back pain after the first night, though this was resolved after we requested firmer ones. While the sheets felt soft and luxurious, the bed itself felt basic. Additionally, the soundproofing on the 18th floor was subpar; outside noises were audible. Practical details in the room also fell short. There was no full-length mirror in the room or bathroom—only a standard mirror above the sink. Space around the sink was limited, making it difficult for two people to manage their toiletries. Connecting our Apple devices to the TV proved to be challenging, and a simpler system allowing direct logins to streaming services like Netflix or YouTube would be more user-friendly. On a positive note, the location was excellent. The hotel offers beautiful views of Lumphini Park and is adjacent to the impressive new mall, The One Bangkok. The nearby MRT station made getting around convenient and hassle-free. Overall, while we appreciated the professionalism and enthusiasm of the staff, the shortcomings in the room and overall hardware left us disappointed. With some improvements, SO/ could fully live up to its five-star potential.

Stylish downtown hotel with minor inconveniences ”
The pros: chic and contemporary interior decor, spacious room, nice infinity pool on the 10th floor overlooking Lumpini park, located just across the road from an MRT station. The cons: Some unconventional design choices in the room resulted in little inconveniences during the stay, e.g. the short squarish lever used to turn on/off the tap in the bathroom was unintuitive and uncomfortable to use, making it difficult to control the water flow/temperature. The unconventional shape and design of the sink resulted in constant dripping and spillage of water onto the bathroom floor. More generally, some of the fixtures in the room showed wear and tear and could do with maintenance. The lights above the foot of the bed were not working, and the lights in the minibar area (controlled by a sliding door) were glitchy and didn’t come on and off reliably. The staff attending us during check-in were friendly and welcoming; however, the staff checking us out were brusque and businesslike. It would do for the hotel to remember that the checkout process is the last impression of the service that the guest will take away with them and may color their memory of the whole stay, even if unintentionally.
