Did you find this review summary helpful?
I stayed 2 nights in August. The dorm was quite satisfactory, had lockers (bring your own lock), curtains, and good security. Ventilation only by 1 window which cannot be fully opened - not a problem most of the time but during summers I imagine it will be insufferably hot. Bathrooms ad toilets were clean, but seemed too few for the number of residents (2 per floor). The location is great, right across from Gare du Nord. Very easy to get to outbound trains as well as commute around Paris. The hostel is also attached to the Belushi's bar downstairs and gives residents nice discounts on food and bev. The breakfast was excellent! My only grouse was with the check-in counter staff. Some of them were nice, but a few others were extremely curt. I didn't have any explicit arguments with them to complain about, but their attitude in general seemed like they wanted to be anywhere but here. If you can avoid or minimize your interactions with the staff as much as possible, this is a really good and affordable stay in Paris.
Quite frankly, I wish this hostel had been fully booked *before* I reserved a bed because this place was easily the worst hostel of my month long trip across Europe. The scale of the place is hard to describe, but the bar whose patrons occlude the reception area, make the place seem overrun. The morning after I arrived (Tuesday/Wednesday), not a single extra bed was free, which is an uncomfortable thought if one takes issue with their room in particular. There is one ladder shared by two sets of bunk beds and requires some dexterity as it is anchored at a 90 degree angle to the beds itself. The top bunks are open to the ceiling, which, if you're light sensitive without an eye mask, means every flick of the light becomes a problem. I woke up instantly when the first guest left in the morning, after specifically searching for a hostel with a capsule/pod-like bed to avoid this. The size of the room itself becomes an issue when the underbed storage isn't accessible because the caged lid won't open until it's fully withdrawn. The entire walkway becomes occluded, also meaning the front door won't open if someone has their drawer open. The likelihood of this becoming an issue at certain times of the day is highly probable. There's a sink and mirror in the room, but given the lack of respect I experienced from other guests in the space, I imagine this could become a source of contention for some. I did notice the bathrooms were filthy on my floor and there was a stark lack of check marks after 11:00, indicating an employee had come around to clean things. I used the facilities as late as 23:00 and noticed the next morning that someone had added extra check marks where there were none. There had been a sink full of crud all day, where it seemed someone washed mud caked socks, and another sink had a contact lens in it that would rehydrate anytime someone used the sink. It's nice that the showers have a locking door and places to put toiletries, but they share a divider with a toilet stall and the motion lights go out on you while showering and the water button must be pressed every 15 or 20 seconds. I found the place entirely lacking in common areas that aren't an obnoxious bar. The location is prime for other nightlife, but for folks hoping for some quiet solitude to work on their laptops, this place is not it. You have to buy locks and towels (no deposit system). This would be my last resort hostel every time. While it can be fairly cheap (~40€), it still feels like quite a rip off, given how lovely my stay was at hostels in Belgium and Berlin. I'd choose anywhere else.
Duplicate review as I made two separate bookings for a continuous stay. Check-in was a breeze. I had two separate bookings and Adrian helped combine them into one. Booked separately for 10-/8- bedder due to availability but got an upgrade for my whole stay into an 8-bedder. Some initial issues getting into my room as the card reader wasn't synced up but manager-looking guy (sorry didn't get your name) at reception realised the fault after seeing me go up and down three times. Handled every professionally and they went up with me to sort out the card reader using their handheld device. Reception provides a range of services, including towel rentals, locks, etc. Water dispenser located in the lobby. Beds were good. Have individual power sockets, light and sleeping curtain. Large pull out locker under the bed. Only wish was that they didn't squeak so much when opening/closing. Some guys used the radiator to dry their socks and undergarments and made the room a little funky, but hey, it's a dorm and not the fault of the hostel. Told them politely to air their laundry elsewhere and it was fine. Toilets have separate WCs and showers. Didn't have to wait for one during my stay. I think one of the male showers beside room 415 wasn't running hot water. May need to get that checked. Only wished there was a hair dryer in the toilet as well, cause I briefly walked by another female toilet on the same floor during cleaning and saw that there was one there. Gender equality yo. Men need to dry their hair too. Small issue, but would have been nice. The bar may be a little intimidating when you first walk in because it's not exclusively owned by the hostel and thus open to the public. Many go there for a quick drink after work or to watch football on the large screens. Need a bit of effort to discern who are the hostellites and who aren't. Perhaps in future we could demarcate an area for hostel peeps? Bartenders Tommy (and others) were a delight to be served by. In addition, as a hostel guest, you'd get 25% off all food, and some additional drink promotions as well. Smoking corner for the bar could be shifted further out just so the smoke doesn't come back in to the lobby/bar/pantry/laundry area. Good location to main Gare du Nord station. Couldn't have asked for anywhere better. Only issue is this made the hostel a layover point for those with long train layovers/delays/etc. Perhaps the hostel should sort out longer term bookings and single night stayers apart just so it's easier for actual travelers to Paris to meet each other and hang. In all, lively atmosphere with good music from the bar. Affordable food and drinks if you do not wish to step out. Small improvements can be made for better experience for future stayers.

“Avarage Stay: Unfair Reception Treatment Toward Asian Guests”
I arrived at the hostel around 10:00 am and asked if early check-in was possible. The receptionist informed me that check-in starts at 3:00 pm, which I understood and accepted. Since I had several hours to wait, I asked about luggage storage and was told it costs €2 per hour or around €8–9 for 24 hours. Personally, I found this a bit unreasonable — after paying for a stay, it would be fair for guests arriving early to store their bags safely without additional charges until rooms are ready. While I waited in the lobby, I noticed that some guests were allowed to leave their luggage near the reception without paying, while others were asked to wait or use the paid lockers. This inconsistency in how the rule was applied made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Clearer and fairer communication from the front desk would really improve the experience. When I returned around 1:15 pm, another staff member was at the desk. She was polite, considerate, and immediately started checking us in — which I really appreciated. That positive interaction helped balance the earlier disappointment. Regarding the facilities: one of the lifts was out of service. My 8-bed mixed dorm was fine overall, though one guest snored loudly all night. The under-bed storage cages are practical but noisy — you need to pull them out completely to open them, which disturbs others. It’s best to bring your own lock if you plan to use them. Breakfast was average. The bananas were overripe and the overall selection was limited, but it was convenient to have something available in the morning. On the bright side, despite the bar hosting a party one night, there was minimal noise in my room. One thing I found inconvenient was the lack of a communal kitchen area — there’s no microwave, stove, or shared space to prepare simple meals. For long-term travelers or those on a budget, this makes the stay less practical. Overall, the hostel is decent for a short visit, especially if you value location and a social atmosphere. However, I’d suggest that management ensure consistent front-desk policies, provide clearer communication, and consider adding basic guest amenities like a kitchen or at least a microwave. Small changes could make a big difference in comfort and hospitality
